osition Overview The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Academic Mentor provides academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. This role helps students develop effective study skills, understand course material, and navigate the challenges of STEM education, including the university transfer process. Rate: $22-$24/hour for up to 20 hours per week; two (2) positions available. Start/End Date: June 2025-June 2026 Key Responsibilities Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Support students through the university transfer process and encourage persistence in STEM fields. Provide individual and group tutoring in mathematics and science subjects. Clarify difficult concepts and guide students through problem-solving techniques for homework and exams. Provide support through review sessions, workshops, seminars, and test preparation activities. Assist students in developing effective study strategies and time management skills. Track student progress and provide feedback to the MESA Program Director. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the MESA Program Director to support student success. May assist in chaperoning students on field trips and at conferences when needed. Preferred Qualification An understanding of equity, social justice, and their impact on education and student success. Currently enrolled in upper division calculus-based STEM coursework or completed a calculus-based STEM Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Strong foundation and understanding of mathematics and science coursework. Prior tutoring or mentoring experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Work Environment & Schedule Flexible hours based on program needs. May include evenings or weekends. Work may be conducted in-person or online, depending on program needs
